Eco-team

Farnley started on their Eco-school’s journey by welcoming their new Eco-team. Our children were chosen by staff for their interest in science and the environment and the contribution they can make to Eco-schools.  Thank you Eco-team, for agreeing to take part.

Environmental review

All children in school have now completed the environmental review and the Eco-team have collected their responses and considered the topic areas that we would like to develop as part of our Action Plan for the year.  We now need to work on our Action Plan

GROW To School

We had fantastic weather for our first GROW To School session of the year.  Vashti helped us prepare vegetable beds by;

Risk assessing the area.

Identifying different garden tools.

Showing us how to handle garden tools safely.

Clearing weeds and seeds from the trees off the beds.

Turning veggie compost into the soil using trowels and forks.

Plant seeds and seedlings.

Water our seedlings

Well done everyone, you did a fantastic job.

Vashti also left us broad bean and garlic to plant in early November.

Eco-teams meeting at St Lucius Church

Farnley’s Eco-team went to visit Kath, Chair of St Lucius Eco Church Working Group and Linda who runs the St Lucius Church Yard Project.  It was fantastic to learn about all the Eco-work Kath and Linda have been involved in at the church and share how this links to Eco-schools.  Did you know, there are 5 domains when applying to be an Eco-church that link closely with the 10 topics within Eco-schools? We all agreed that people are at the heart of Eco-church and Eco-schools.

Kath and Linda also presented the team with a beautiful bee house and an information sheet to go with it.  We look forward to working with you in the future.
