Geography
'Working together to be the best we can be'
Intent
Across the Greenhills First Federation, we intend to deliver a high quality geography curriculum that inspires in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We aim to extend the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world they live in; about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. Our curriculum is planned to develop in pupils a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
We look for the awe and wonder in the world around us and celebrate our part in this.
Implementation
Geography is embraced as an individual subject from Year 1 - Year 5 and covered within 'Understanding the World' in our Early Years curriculum.
Children encounter opportunities for learning within geography each term, where learning is focused on the knowledge and skills stated in the National Curriculum. It forms part of our two-year curriculum cycle.
Where appropriate, we plan trips and visit to enhance learning within the subject so they have first hand, real experiences.
Impact
We aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We measure the impact of our geography teaching and curriculum by assessing the ability of pupils to:
- Investigate places
- Investigate patterns
- Communicate geographically
KS2
KS1
In KS1 we have been learning about different types of weather. We have been recording the changes in the weather over the last few weeks. The children took on the role as Weather Reporters and videoed their own weather forecasts to describe the weather in different parts of the UK. We have been learning the four main compass points and we used maps and weather symbols to help us.
